GESISA is Born

GESISA was founded in 1969 as a Computer Studies and Services Office, with the aim of providing computer programming services that the then emerging IBM supplied to Catalan companies.

That same year, the manufacturer introduced its first computer aimed at the SME sector, System 3, which sought to bring data processing systems, as they were then called, to this large sector.

The direct relationship with the market’s leading manufacturer at that time allowed GESISA to position itself as one of the main providers of computer analysis and programming services, being one of the pioneers in introducing computing to Catalan businesses. Notable from those times is their involvement in implementing billing and production control systems at OLIMPIC BENITEZ, S.A., a textile company in Barcelona and Mataró, as well as, at the end of the decade, their involvement in modernizing management and administration processes at LABORATORIOS INIBSA and later ACEROS BOIXAREU, S.A., a long-established metallurgy company in Catalonia.

GESISA specializes in the development of IBM S/38 Solutions

In the late 70s, GESISA specialized in developing solutions in the IBM S/38 environment. In the early 80s, especially with the introduction of the IBM PC, a period of great growth began. The two areas in which GESISA specialized, IBM midrange systems (the famous S/3X) and microcomputing for PC application development, grew in parallel with market expansion. At that time, GESISA led the market for accounting and billing management applications for small and medium-sized enterprises.

At the end of the 80s, GESISA began a transformation process aligned with general market trends to incorporate technological solutions from other manufacturers that added value to its clients. The emergence of Microsoft Windows 3.11 and the presentation of the IBM AS400 opened a new era in system architecture, allowing the integration of both worlds. Consequently, GESISA complemented its solutions with tools that facilitated this integration. Their catalog included integrated image processing systems with AS400, METAVIEW, and the tool for integrating AS400 database data with MS Excel spreadsheets, SHOWCASE.

GESISA Provides GI2 Services and formalizes agreements with HP and Microsoft

This trend was confirmed after the 1992 Olympic Games, leading to a profound transformation where programming services were complemented with the design, installation, and management of IT infrastructures on which applications run. From this point, GESISA’s offerings encompassed all the necessary elements to provide the best solutions, enabling clients to use IT systems at the lowest possible ownership cost.

All GESISA solutions are designed to ensure minimal operating costs. For this reason, a team of specialists in system installation, commissioning, maintenance, and administration was established to deliver the so-called GI2 services (IT Infrastructure Management).

The formalization of partnership agreements with Microsoft and HP, while maintaining the historical relationship with IBM, made GESISA a company with solid technological support, offering a wide range of solutions. Achieving the highest levels of certification in the latest virtualization, monitoring, replication, and automated administration technologies with industry leaders VMware and Veeam updated and completed GESISA’s solution offerings.

Following the significant transformation in businesses due to the Y2K effect, the advent of the internet, and the structuring of local networks, Bill Gates’ 1980 vision of a computer on every desk became a reality. GESISA structured itself to offer management services for these infrastructures and developed the ITIL methodology to implement innovative IT Infrastructure Management (GI2) services, based on active directory services and the management policies of the innovative Windows 2000 Server.

The implementation of ERPs like SAP, MOVEX, BAAN, PG/400, AXAPTA… in our clients enabled us to specialize our team in developing and implementing complementary applications. These include commercial management applications, CRM, production management tools, and supply chain management (SCM), which complement ERP functionalities with specific solutions tailored to our clients’ needs.

Our clients began to request new functionalities, such as output management, data analysis, Business Intelligence, web apps, and mobile apps, requiring new systems, tools, and partners.
